D.P.W. Bowls

boris8-11.jpgThe strong graphics and bright colors of these D.P.W. bowls won us over immediately.

Boris Bally makes the bowls out of recycled street signs. He says, "Signage has become my passionate medium of choice not only because of the recycling message, but also its appeal to me as an extreme variation on the age-old tradition of enamelling."

Bally also creates serving trays, light switch plates, coasters, vases, and furniture, all out of traffic signs.

He's won numerous awards, and his work is shown in museums such as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Museum of Arts & Design in New York, and the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh.

Are these food safe?

Is it really "recycling" when the re-use is really just more junk to clutter up someone's home till they get tired of it and junk it again?

That said, something like this, but with a lid or cover, is exactly what I'm looking for as a receptacle for the various remotes that clutter my coffee table.
